From a restaurant inside a lava cave to a 60-year-old institution surrounded by tropical vegetation, these are the places that real customers keep recommending.

Rent a car. The best restaurants are spread across the island — from Los Sauces in the north to El Paso in the centre. Public transport will not get you there.
Try the local wine. La Palma has its own DO wine designation. Ask for the vino de la tierra at any restaurant and you will rarely be disappointed.
Book everywhere. The island has fewer restaurants than the larger islands and the good ones fill up fast. Always call ahead, especially in summer.
Try the barraquito. This layered coffee with condensed milk, liqueur and cinnamon is the unofficial drink of the Canary Islands. La Palma does it particularly well.
